Reading is the key to learning. It is a complex task involving many skills that need to be learnt.
At APS we want to develop a love of words and language with our children. We want all of our children to read for pleasure so that reading becomes a lifelong habit unlocking and enabling children to become successful, perform and achieve so that children can live safe, fulfilling lives and make a positive contribution to society.
We use Letters and Sounds to teach phonics in Early Years and Key Stage 1.
We use a range of scheme books to support our teaching of the 8 reading strategies, such as Oxford Reading Tree, Rigby Star, Project X and Collins Big Cat.
We use a range of online platforms such as Bug Club, Reading Plus, Lexia, Doodle English and PiXL.
This section of the website offers an insight to our intentions for reading, how we implement the learning to develop reading skills and what you might find useful to support reading as a parent.
