It has recently been brought to our attention that a number of children have been using the app Discord to chat with their friends online. Discord is not linked in any way to school and we do not use it to communicate any online work for your child.
As children get older, they are going to want to use these sites to communicate with their friends and family. However, sites such as Discord have age restrictions and none of the children at APS are currently old enough to be using it. These age restrictions are important as children are not mature enough to use these apps for the purposes they were designed.
In order to maintain the safety of children at Alexandra, it is vitally important that we work together to raise awareness and understanding of the potential risks underage use of these sites could expose your child to.
Attached to this email you will find some information for parents about the risks that Discord may pose and some ways to help protect your child if you choose to allow them to continue to use Discord.
