Alexandra Primary School
Kwik Cricket Finals

On Tuesday 5th of June Alexandra Primary school took part in the Hounslow borough Kwik Cricket finals. After a shaky performance in the previous day’s cluster competition the Alexandra A team were looking forward to a chance to redeem themselves. The standard of the finals was going to be tough as the team faced off against the top 15 primary schools in the London Borough of Hounslow.

The 16 schools that had either won or come second in their respective cluster competitions were arranged into 4 pools. The winner of each pool would progress to the semi-final stages in the afternoon. Running alongside the cricket there were three skills competitions that the players could compete in individually: the long-throw; longest-hit and crazy catch.

Alexandra’s first match was against Heston Primary. Heston played very well and could well have beaten Alexandra if they hadn’t brought their best game, luckily the previous day’s cluster event had settled the team’s nerves and they were able to defeat Heston 264 runs to 233.

The next match was against St Paul’s and again Alexandra were able to take the victory. This left Alexandra with a match against Ivybridge who had also won two matches. In order to progress we would have to win this match too.

Ivybridge were easily the strongest team we had played so far with some very impressive bowling. Alexandra would have to be at their best to take the win. With some very strong performances from the team both in the field and when batting, Alexandra were able to secure a narrow victory over a very good Ivybridge team.

So onto the semi-finals. Our semi-final match was against Oakhill Primary. Luck was on our side with the coin toss and our captain elected to bowl first. Oakhill finished an impressive innings with 239 runs. Batting second meant the team knew what score they were chasing and they knew they had some work to do. However some clever tactics in choosing our batting order saw the team quickly advance past 239 runs. However a couple of outs saw our score drop again and we weer chasing the runs. Some impressive batting from the team captain as well as the final batsman saw Alexandra take a final score of 254 runs. We were through to the final!

Cranford, our opposition in the final, were a well-oiled Cricket machine. They were outstanding both in the field and in bat and after a couple of good attempts at hitting a six Alexandra were soon trailing and unable to catch up. Cranford were the deserving victors and earned the right to represent Hounslow in the London Championships. However second place is one better than last year for Alexandra and the team were rightly proud of all they achieved.

Hounslow Kwik Cricket competition finals – 6th June 2018

Alexandra Primary School took part in a sensational cricket competition at the Indian Gymkhana against 14 other Hounslow schools. One of our teams made it to the semi-finals and the other got through to the final!

At the final, the first match, Alexandra vs Heston, was very intense as both teams were skilled but we won by 12 points! Our second match against Ivybridge was a bit harder. The team nearly beat us but we won by one point! Luckily, we easily won our third match against Oakhill by 13 runs.

We were ecstatic to make into the finals but worried when we found we were playing Cranford. Our team was already sure that Cranford would beat us because of their impressive bowling. Although Cranford did win, last year, our school came third so we were really overjoyed that we did better than last time. We all felt very pleased for coming second out of so many schools. It was a great day!
