Alexandra Primary School
Ruth Cadbury Visit To APS!

On Monday 26 February 2018, Hounslow, Chiswick and Osterley MP, Ruth Cadbury, came to visit Alexandra Primary School. Firstly, she talked about what she does as the MP for the Hounslow borough. “I usually attend any ceremonies and fetes. I also campaign for any problems Hounslow is facing.” We also had an opportunity to ask Mrs Cadbury a few questions relating to her job and also what she doesn’t like about her job. When asked if she would like to be a Prime Minister like Theresa May, she responded, “No, because you don’t have any time to relax or spend time with your family. As an MP, at least you get a bit of time to put your feet up.” It has also been known that she used to work as a councillor in the Hounslow council earlier on in her career. We were shocked to find out that Mrs Cadbury’s great-grandfather was actually one of the two brothers that owned the Cadbury factory.

We had written a persuasive letter to Mrs Cadbury stating several issues and wishes. Each teacher had chosen one student from their class to read their letter out each on a different issue. The first one was about building more new swings in Lampton Park. After all the four letters were read out, Mrs Cadbury showed her appreciation of their writing.

In the end, Mrs Cadbury talked a little bit more about her job. She said that the best bit of her job was driving her cycle right into the Parliament, while the police officers blocked the entrance to not let the other people in. Additionally, she said, “If I wasn’t to be a MP, then I would like to be a tour guide. I would want to be this because you get to go to places and get paid for it.”

Finally, after an hour of discussing, it was time for the children to say goodbye to Mrs Cadbury. This Monday would definitely be a memorable Monday for us at Alexandra!
