Alexandra participated in this year’s year 3/4 Quadkids Competition. 10 boys and girls represented the school. The competition was split into 4 sections
The boys and girls would compete separately with each child getting their own individual score. Each child’s best running times, throw and jump would accumulate a score each. Each score would then be added together and that child would receive an overall score. All the children’s scores would be added together to get the school’s overall score. The school with the highest score would be the winning school.
The standing long jump was a good start for us as the children all did a great job jumping as far as they can. They put what they had learnt in practice into effect and did some great jumps. One of our boys jumped over 1.8m. With the vortex howler throw, again the children tried their hardest and all of the children threw the howler quite a distance. The girls also did an amazing job throwing the howler further than any of the other girls in our group.
Onto the track events and the running races. All the children did their 50m sprint first. The boys performed brilliantly winning 3 of their 5 races with 1 of our girls winning their race.
Onto the 300m run. All the boys and girls did a great job and ran as hard as they could. Every child was in the top 3 after around 250m to 300m. In the last 150m to 100m all the children dropped off and found it really challenging to keep up. As a result, we dropped down the order with 2 boys finishing in 3rd place and 1 girl finishing in 3rd place.
Overall, the children all did a great job and performed really well as a team.

Alexandra participated in this year’s year 1/2 Quadkids Competition. 10 boys and girls represented the school. The competition was split into 4 sections.
The only thing that affected the children was that they were jumping into sand which was a bit off-putting at first. With the vortex howler throw, again the children tried their hardest and some of the children threw the howler a great distance.
Onto the track events and the running races. All the boys and girls did their 50m sprint first. All the children finished in the top 4 with 1 boy winning his race really well and all finished really high with 2 girls winning their race. Onto the 300m run. The boys weren’t use to the longer distance with again, only 1 boy winning their race. The girls on the other hand performed amazingly well winning 4 of their 5 300m runs. The girl who didn’t win her race still finished in 3rd place.
Overall, the children all did a great job and performed really well as a team.
June 2024
Alexandra participated in the Year 5/6 Boys Kwik Cricket Competition. 9 boys from year 5/6 represented our school. All the teams were split into groups of 4. Every team played each other once with the winning team in the group going through to the Quarter-Finals and the 3 best 2nd placed teams also going through. You received 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. The winning team in the Quarter-Final would go through to the Semi-Finals and then the winners would play each other in the Final.
In our group, we had Reach Academy, St Lawrence and Hounslow Town. In our first game, we played Reach Academy. This was a very good game with our batters hitting some amazing shots and getting us a great score of 253 runs. Reach Academy struggled against our bowlers and our fielding skills with Reach only scoring 209 runs. This resulted in a very good first win.
In our second game, we played St Lawrence. This was an amazing performance with the bat from us with our team scoring an amazing 293 runs which made it almost impossible for them to catch. We backed up a great batting performance with an equally impressive bowling performance, restricting them to only 213 runs. This meant 2 wins out of 2 matches. In our third game, we played Hounslow Town who had also won both their first 2 games. This would prove to be a difficult challenge with Hounslow Town winning. We scored only 204 runs to Hounslow Towns 243 runs. That meant we finished 2nd in our group. However, due to us scoring lots of runs, we went through as the best 2nd place team.
In the Quarter-finals, we faced Norwood Green. This was a very tough game with both teams taking some really good wickets and also batting really well. In the end, we would narrowly win as we scored 233 runs and Norwood Green only scoring 223. This meant we progressed onto the Semi-finals. In the Semi-Finals, we faced Springwell Primary. We gave them a fantastic game and gave it our all. In the end, it wasn’t enough as we scored 224 runs to Springwell’s 253.
Overall, all the children did amazingly well and reached another Semi-Final which made everyone really proud.

Alexandra participated in the Year 5/6 Girls Kwik Cricket Competition. 9 girls from year 5/6 represented our school.
In our group, we played Strand Juniors, The Smallberry Green and Bedfont Primary. In our first game, we played Strand Juniors. This was a first for the girls as they had never played a completive game of cricket before as a team. We were fielding first and then batted brilliantly scoring lots of boundaries. In the end, we won the game 256 runs to 230 runs. In our second game, we played Smallberry Green, this again was a dominant display when batting as we scored 252 runs. We fielded and bowled well keeping them to 227 runs. In our third group game, we played Bedfont Primary. This was our best display all round scoring a really impressive 262 runs and keeping them to 226 runs. In the end, we finished top of our group and qualified for the Quarter-Finals.
In the Quarter-Finals, we played Springwell Primary who were a very good team. The match was brilliantly played with both teams scoring lots of runs and bowling and fielding really well. In the end, we won by 5 runs with the score being 235 runs to 230 runs in our favour. In the Semi-finals, we played Hounslow Heath. We bowled first and bowled and fielded brilliantly keeping them to just 224 runs. When it came to batting, we struggled at first but in the last 4 overs, we got the runs we needed to win the game which was an amazing achievement. In the final, we played Lionel Primary. The game was fantastically played by both schools with both teams scoring and fielding really well. In the end, we just couldn’t get across the line losing the final by 3 runs.
Overall, all the team did an amazing job and made everyone super proud with the way they performed finishing in 2nd place.

March 2024
Alexandra participated in a mini football tournament at Wellington Primary School along with Hounslow Heath Primary School. 8 children each from Year 3/4 Year 5/6 represented our school. The tournament was split into 2 groups with Year 3/4 and 5/6 having their own separate group. Each team played each other once with the winning team getting 3 points, with a draw resulting in 1 point and a loss was 0 points. The team in each group with the most points at the end was the winning team.
The first group was the Year 3/4 group. This was the first time the children had ever played together competitively. They did a really good job and worked hard and played some great football.
The first game was against Hounslow Heath. We went 1-0 up and were playing really well. But unfortunately, we ended up conceding 4 goals in the last few minutes which resulted in us losing 4-1. In our second game, we played Wellington Primary. This game was a lot closer with us scoring 2 goals. But in the end, Wellington were too much for us as we lost the game 5-2. As a result of the games, we finished in 3rd place in our group.
The second group was the Year 5/6 group. They had already played a competition together and had a good understanding of how to play. In our first game we played Hounslow Heath. This was a very good game with our keeper making some great saves. The big difference was our players took their chances when they came. We ended up winning the game 2-0 with our midfielder scoring and creating both goals. In our second game, we played Wellington Primary. After Hounslow Heath beat Wellington, we knew that a draw would be enough to win our group. We started the game brilliantly scoring 2 early goals going 2-0 up. In the second half, we sat a bit more defensively and after a couple of mistakes, the game was 2-2. But, we held on in the end and finished top of our group with 4 points.
Overall, all the children did a great job and represented the school brilliantly. Year 5/6 did a brilliant job winning their group and not losing a game.
March 2024
Alexandra took part in this year’s 5/6 Tag-Rugby competition. 10 children represented the school, 4 girls and 6 boys. The games were 7v7 with each match being 10 minutes long. Each school was put into a group of 6 teams with each team playing each other once. You got 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. The top two teams in each group would go through to the Quarter-Finals with the bottom 3 teams going home. Each team were given 6 tags (lives). Every time you got tagged, passed the ball forward, dropped the ball forward or took the ball off the pitch, the attacking team would lose a tag (life). Each team had 6 tags to try and score. After the 6th tag was taken, the other team would become the attacking team. Every time the teams would swap, the tags would go back to 6.
We started with the group stage. It was a hard group we had with lots of quality teams who performed really well. We lost our first game only just as the team scored a last second try to win the game. In our second game, we lost by 2 tries. We went on to win our third game by 2 tries with 2 of our girls scoring two fantastic solo tries, running through the entirety of the other team. We then lost our fourth and fifth games due to a lack of concentrating when defending which had been our biggest strength up to that point. In our first 3 games, we defended brilliantly, stopping some amazing tries and making it really hard for each team.
Overall, the children performed really well and tried as hard as they could. They defended brilliantly throughout and especially in the first 3 games. They made everyone proud with their commitment and team work.
March 2024
Alexandra took part in this years 3v3 Basketball competition. 6 children represented our school this year. Each game was a 3v3 with each match being 10 minutes long. Each school was split into groups of 5 with each team playing each other once. You received 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. The top 2 teams would go through to the Quarter-Finals with the bottom 3 teams going home. There always had to be at least 1 boy and 1 girl on the court at all times.
We had 4 schools in our group who were very good and had lots of quality throughout their teams. We played some great Basketball but unfortunately were missing that scoring instinct in from of the basket. We also really struggled with the transition from attack to defence where we would lose our attacker for them to score. With that in mind, everyone still gave it their all and tried as hard as they could. We finished bottom of our group in the end.
Overall, all the children competed really well in all their games but just couldn’t find a way to score and win the matches. But they still made everyone proud.
February 2024
Alexandra took part in this years Year 5/6 Best Football Competition. 10 children represented the school in this competition. It was a 6v6 game with the game length being 10 minutes long. Each school was put into groups of 5 teams with each team playing each other once. You scored 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss. The top two teams in each group went through into the Quarter-Finals with the bottom 3 teams going home.
In our group, we played some very hard schools who had lots of quality. All the children gave their all in every game and played really well. We unfortunately lost our first game 2-0 We won our second game 1-0 after a great goal from our striker created by our midfielder. We lost our third game 1-0 which was very unlucky as we just couldn’t seem to score. We then won our fourth game 3-0 with our striker again scoring another 2 goals and our midfielder scoring another great goal. In the end, we finished 3rd in our group and just missed out on making the quarter-finals.
Overall, we made great progress from last year where we lost all our games and didn’t score a single goal to this year where we won 2 games and scored 4 goals. Everyone did the school proud with their commitment and hard work they put in.
February 2024
Alexandra took part in this years Year 5/6 Girls football competition. 10 girls represented the school in this competition. We started off in a group of 5 schools, with every school playing each other once. The top team would then go through to the quarter-finals where the competition would then become a knockout. The winners of the quarters would go through to the semi-finals and winners of that would face off in the final.
In our group, we had 4 other schools as well as the winners of last years Girls Football Competition. We started off really strong winning our first game 2-1. We defended brilliantly with their goal being an own goal. We also then won our second game 3-0 with our captain picking up 2 very impressive goals to get us under way. We played some great football, passing and moving and getting into great space for one another. In our third match, we also won 2-0 and drew our last match 0-0. This meant we finished top of our group on 10 points with 7 goals scored and 1 goal conceded and that goal was accidently scored by our own player.
We then progressed onto the quarter-finals where we played Hounslow Heath. It was a tough match with both teams playing some great football. We had a lot of chances to score but the keeper and the woodwork seemed to keep us out. Hounslow Heath then got a break and managed to score from their only shot of the game. Unfortunately, that was enough to see us exit at the quarter-finals.
All the girls did amazingly well and were very unlucky not to make it to the semi-finals. They all did the school proud with their effort, hard work and team work.
November 2023
Alexandra took part in this year’s Primary Cross-Country competition. 12 children from KS2 represented the school with there being 3 girls and 3 boys from year 3/4 and 3 girls and 3 boys from year 5/6. The competition was split into 4 races. The year 3/4 girls race, the year 3/4 boys race, the year 5/6 girls race and finally the year 5/6 boys race. All the year 3/4 children had to run 1000m and all the year 5/6 children had to run 1600m.
Up first were the year 3/4 races. The girls went first and all of them tried their very best and put 100% in. All three girls finished around the same point with our best finisher finishing in 41st place out of 100+ girls, which was a great effort. Our second race was the year 3/4 boys. All three boys gave it their all and ran their hardest. But this race belonged to one boy in particular from year 4 who put in an amazing run and managed to finish 2nd place again, out of 100+ boys. It’s our highest ever finish in a race and was amazing to watch as he only just finished behind first place. Everyone was so proud of him and cheering him on as he ran.
We then moved onto the second half of the event which was the year 5/6 races. The year 5/6 girls went first in a very difficult race which had anywhere between 150 to 200 children running in. Again, all three girls ran their best and gave it their all. One girl from year 6 finished in an outstanding 15th place with another girl finishing in 40th place. With how many children were running, those were two fantastic finishing positions. In our final race, we had the year 5/6 boys. Again, there were about 200 children running in this race making it very difficult for our 3 boys. The boys did their best and never gave up. Our highest finishing position was 41st which was a great effort considering how many children were running in the race.
Overall, the children made everyone really proud and we ended up with some amazing finishing positions.
May 2023
On Wednesday 24th May, 10 excited boys headed to Indian Gymkhana to take part in a Cricket Tournament against 14 other Hounslow schools. The event was organised into pitches, each school playing three matches and the winner of each group went through to the quarter finals.
Team | Results |
APS v Lionel Primary | 257 – 205 |
APS v St Mary’s Catholic School Chiswick | 289 - 185 |
APS v The Smallberry Green Primary | 276 – 208 |
Quarter Finals | |
APS v Hounslow Town | 223 - 240 |
What these results do not show is the resilience, strength, logic, problem solving, determination, collaboration, a great team spirit and wonderful skill that was on show throughout the matches. The catches were phenomenal, the bowling (including a maiden over) was sublime, the LBW’s were beyond belief. The team won every match up to the quarter final, played to the final ball and gave everything they had in that final match. The smiles they wore throughout the games were wonderful to see and they couldn’t have made APS prouder if they tried.
Well done boys.
March 2023
Alexandra took part in this years Tag-Rugby competition. We took 10 children from year 5 and 6 to represent the school. We were put into a group with 5 other schools and had 5 matches to play with each game lasting 8 minutes long. It was 5 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss with the top 2 teams from each group going into the Quarter finals. Each team was given a total of 6 tags/lives. If a team lost all 6 tags before scoring, they would lose the ball and the other team would becoming the attacking team.
Our first game started off well with our defence standing firm and not letting the other team get through. We came very close on a couple of occasions to scoring but couldn’t break the deadlock. The game would end 0-0.
Onto our second game, we started off again well but as with the first game, we couldn’t seem to get the all-important try. But, after defending extremely well, the other school managed to break through and score back to back which meant we lost our second game 2-0.
In our third game, we played one of the competition favourites and again, performed really well. We put up a fight almost coming back from 2-0 down, but the other school just managed to hang on. We lost the game 2-1.
The fourth game was a difficult one as the school we played had a stand out player who scored running the full length of the pitch weaving in and out of defenders. But, we didn’t give up and gave it everything constantly trying to stop him and pushing forward to bring the game back. But unfortunately, we would lose the game 2-0.
In our fifth and final game, we played really well like we had in all the games, but our final third play lacked and again, we really struggled to convert from great positions. We would go on to lose the game 2-1 meaning we unfortunately would not make it through to the quarter finals.
The children gave everything and played some great Rugby. The big difference between ourselves and the other teams were the other schools had one or two outstanding players who could carry the ball the length of the pitch without being tagged. We played amazingly well as a team, moving the ball and defending as a unit, but didn’t have that cutting edge to break the other school’s defensive line and score. But nonetheless , the children did the school proud showing pure resilience.
March 2023
On Tuesday 7th March, Alexandra took a team of 10 children across Y5 and Y6 to participate in a Netball tournament at The Heathlands School. The tournament consisted of 16 excellent teams across Hounslow where only the top team from each group (4 groups) could go through to the finals.
Playing through freezing cold conditions, it even started snowing, the team adapted quickly and showed true grit and determination to battle through each of their games. Despite not reaching the finals, they never stopped believing and fought till the very end of the tournament. Every single one of them can be proud of themselves and we hope they continue to be involved in Netball in the future.
February 2023
Alexandra took part in this years 3v3 Basketball competition. 6 children represented the school from year 5 and 6. We were put into a group with 5 other schools and would play each team once. The games were 7 minutes long and would be played in one basketball hoop. Every basket was worth 2 points with the winning team being the team with the most points at the end of the game.
Our first group game was against Cranford Primary school. The game was a close encounter with both teams matching each other defensively and offensively. With the score at 6-6, we took control of the game scoring two late baskets to put us up 10-6 up, which is how the game would finish. In our second game we were unable to keep the ball and were slow in transition from attack to defence and as a result, we lost our second game 6-0 to St Mary’s who would go on to win our group.
Onto our 3rd game. The children were adamant that they were not going to lose this game. We played Hounslow Town who had started very well. The team put on an unbelievable performance, scoring 5 baskets again and keeping a high scoring Hounslow Town to only 3 baskets. The link up play between everyone on the court was exceptional and they all worked super hard to limit the amount of chances they had to score. We ended up winning the game 10-6.
In our 4th and final game, we played Smallberry Green. Smallberry Green had played out a lot of close matches which we were very aware of going into the game. We carried on our great form from the last game scoring 3 very early baskets and limiting them to practically no clear chances to score. That was then how the game finished, we won the game 6-0 with our defence being the most impressive part of that game.
We ended up finishing 3rd, missing out on 2nd by 1 point. The team were proud of how well they had played. Winning 3 games out of 4 in a tough group is a very impressive thing to do. They all played exceptionally well and carried themselves in a great manor.
February 2023
On Friday 3rd February, 9 excited boys headed to Gunnersbury Park to take part in a Boys Football Tournament. The event saw 24 Hounslow primary schools taking part in 6-a-side games with the winners going on to the West London Finals.
The team showed resilience, strength, respect, determination, collaboration, a great team spirit and improved game on game. They played to the final whistle and gave everything they had in every game with each player bringing their unique skills and another dimension to the team. Despite results not going our way, the smiles they wore throughout the games were wonderful to see and they couldn’t have made APS prouder if they tried. Well done Boys.
January 2023
In January, Alexandra took part in this year’s Girls Football Competition at Gunnersbury Park. All the schools were put into 4 groups of 6 with the top 2 teams going through to the Quarter-Finals. We played every team once in our group. Each game was 8 minutes long with there being 5 points for a win, 3 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. We went into this competition full of hope after our great display earlier on in the year at the Girls Football Festival.
We started off the group against St. Pauls. The game started off very well for us as we created a lot of chances very early on, but were denied by either the goalkeeper or the post. But we kept pushing and in a manic minute, we found ourselves 2-0 up. St. Pauls did pull a goal back but we finished the game in style as we scored a third goal, winning the game 3-1.
In our second game, we struggled to break down a strong St. Mary’s Chiswick team who defensively were very stable. We had a couple of chances to score, but couldn’t break the dead lock and drew the game 0-0.
But, that would not be the story in our third game where the girls would show immense finishing skills to beat Smallberry Green 4-0 to leave us top of the group after 3 games played. At this point, the group was very close between 4 teams and we still had to play 2 of them.
Going into our fourth game, we had to play Hounslow Town. A win for us would mean we go through into the Quarter-Finals. Anything other than a win would mean it would all come down to the last game. We unfortunately did not get off to the best start going 1-0 down in the first 20 seconds. But, the girls showed amazing character and resilience to not let their heads drop and strive for an equalising goal. Which came with about 3 minutes to go. We were then denied a winning goal after an amazing save from the Hounslow Town goalkeeper.
In our last group game, if we won or drew, we would go through. If we lost, we would need Hounslow Town to draw and St. Mary’s Chiswick to not win by more than 3 goals. We played Crane Park who had some very good players on their team. Unfortunately, we lost the game 1-0 meaning it was out of our hands to go through now. Luckily for us, Hounslow Town drew their game 1-1 and St. Mary’s Chiswick won their game 3-0 meaning we went through to the Quarter-Finals on goal difference.
In the Quarter-Finals, we met a very strong Strand team. This game was all about how amazing our goalkeeper played. We went 1-0 up after we scored a great free-kick from just inside their half. After that, Stand put on the pressure, calling our goalkeeper in action multiple times, but she was equal to it. After countless saves, Strand did equalise and the game finished 1-1, meaning it went to sudden-death penalties.
We went first and our captain put the ball right into the bottom corner. Strand had to score otherwise they would lose the game. The Strand player hit the ball right at our goalkeeper who still had to make a great save and we won the game.
Onto the Semi-Finals where we played Strands other team. This game was a lot more straightforward for us as we took a very early lead with a double from our captain who had been amazing all competition. We defended well and didn’t give them any chances and progressed onto the Final with a 2-0 win.
In the Final, we would meet OLSJ. OLSJ had been in great form this competition, not conceding a single goal. The girls played amazingly well in the final, like they had the whole competition. They defended very well and came close to scoring on a couple of occasions. But OLSJ’s goalkeeper was just outstanding in the final. She made 2 breath taking saves in the final few minutes. The game finished 0-0 and we went to sudden-death penalties again.
This time, Strand went first and scored very calmly. Our captain stepped up again, but unfortunately, the keeper made a good save and we lost the game on penalties.
Overall, the Girls were exceptional throughout the competition. Not just on the football side, but as a team and representatives of our school. They made the whole school proud and finished in an amazing 2nd place. We’re all very very proud of them and what they achieved.
January 2023
In January, Alexandra played Wellington Primary in a football match at Wellington’s school. We took 8 boys from Year 5 and 6 to represent us. The match was split into four 10-minute quarters with there being a small break at the end of each quarter. The match was 6-a-side with there being roll-on roll-off subs.
The game started slowly with Wellington having the better of the chances in the 1st quarter. Alexandra’s keeper was in terrific form making save after save after save. Unfortunately, with about 2 minutes left in the quarter, Wellington had a shot which hit the hand of an Alexandra player resulting in a penalty kick for Wellington which they scored from. The goal seemed to inspire Alexandra as they had a good chance at the end of the 1st quarter.
Into the 2nd quarter, a couple of team changes were made in the hope the team would start creating a few more chances. The quarter started off in the right way with Alexandra having a good amount of shots and forcing Wellington’s keeper to make some smart saves. A goal kick resulted in the ball at the Wellington striker’s feet with an open goal ahead of him which he did not miss. Making the score 2-0 to Wellington. At this point, it would have been easy for the team to lose confidence. But the goal did the complete opposite and seemed to motivate Alexandra even more to get back into the game. Around 2 minutes after Wellington scored, a great bit of play on the right resulted in our striker being in front of goal which he calmly put into the bottom corner of the net. Making the score 2-1 just before the end of the quarter.
In quarter 3, we defended amazingly well with our keeper still making some great saves when needed. We were now creating lots of chances and had Wellington on the back foot. With about 4 minutes to go, a long ball over the top wasn’t dealt with by the Wellington defence which let out striker in, who composed himself and finished the ball with an exceptional volley to make the score 2-2. Alexandra weren’t finished there and would push for a winning goal.
Going into the 4th quarter, it was all to play for with the game all square. It was a very even quarter with both teams not wanting a draw and pushing for a winner. Both teams had lots of chances but both keepers were equal to it. The game seemed to be heading for a draw until one of our midfielders stepped up. In the game, he had given it his all. Creating attacks as well as helping out the defenders. He picked up the ball just inside Wellington’s half, took the ball past one with some fancy footwork, then beat the second defender and with just the keeper ahead, opened up his body and put the ball through the keeper legs putting Alexandra 3-2 in the lead with 2 minutes to go. The team should be really proud, coming from 2-0 down to win the game 3-2. It was an amazing display of heart and character from the team to keep going and show their quality.
October 2022
On Friday 14th October, 10 excited girls headed to Heston Pools Sports Centre to take part in a Girls Football Tournament. The event was organised into 3 events, 3 v 3 football matches, capture the flag and handball.
The team showed resilience, strength, logic, problem solving, determination, collaboration, a great team spirit and wonderful skill throughout the events. They won every match, played to the final whistle and gave everything they had. The smiles they wore throughout the events were wonderful to see and they couldn’t have made APS prouder if they tried.
Well done Girls.
November 2022
Alexandra took part in this year’s Primary Cross-Country competition. We took 12 boys and girls from year 3 to 6. The competition was split into 4 races. There was a year 3 and 4 girls race, the year 3and 4 boys race, the year 5 and 6 girls race and the year 5 and 6 boys race. At the end of each race, each runner was given a raffle ticket with their finishing position on. The year 3 and 4’s had to run 1000 meters and the year 5 and 6’s had to run 1600 meters. Each finishing position was then added together at the end of each individual race which then would give the schools there overall finishing place.
The first race was the year 3 and 4 girls. Three girls represented our school in this race. The girls ran as fast as they could and put tons of effort in. They were around the middle of the pack the whole race until the end when all three pushed as hard as they could to all finish in the top half. It was a great effort from all three girls.
The second race was the year 3 and 4 boys. Three boys represented our school in this race. This was our strongest display from start to finish. Two of the boys right from the start got ahead into the lead pack. They kept running their hearts out and pushed all the way until the end. As a result, the boys finished 7th and 12th out of 81 children, which was an amazing finish.
The third race was the year 5and6 girls. Three girls represented our school in this race. The girls started off at a slow pace, making sure they were saving their energy as it was a longer race. On the last straight, all three girls put all their remaining energy in and finished really strongly. One girl finished 18th and another 30th out of 137 girls which was an unreal showing.
Our fourth and final race was the year 5 and 6 boys race. Three boys represented our school in this race. The boys gave it their all and tried as hard as they could, never stopping and pushing themselves to the limit. Our best finishing place was 28th out of 192 children which was an amazing effort.
Overall, the Year 3and4 girls finished 9th out 15 schools and the year 3 and 4 boys finished 4th out of 18 schools. The year 5and6 girls finished in 8th out of 38 schools and the year 5and6 boys finished 18th out of 56 schools. We finished in the top half in 3 of our 4 races and even finished in the top 10 in two, which is a fantastic achievement from the children. All the children put 110% in and didn’t give up. They never walked and made the whole school proud with their effort.
June 2022
Alexandra took part in this year’s Kwik Cricket Borough Finals after finishing as the best placed 2nd team in the North Cluster. The 13 best schools in Hounslow competed against one another to find a winner. The winning team would represent Hounslow in the London Youth Games. All 13 schools were put into one big group. Each school would play 5 group games with the top 4 teams going into the semi-finals. Positions were based of how many runs a team scored. It was the same rules as last time, each team started on 200 runs, every run scored would be added onto their score, a wide or no-ball counted as 2 runs to the batting team every wicket lost would be minus 5 runs, each team bowled 8 overs with every fielder bowling 1 over each and the batting team would be split into pairs and that pair would bat for 2 overs each. The only difference was, the teams bowled 3 ball overs instead of 6 ball overs.
Our first game was against Bedfont. We won the toss and chose to let Bedfont bat first. Our bowlers and fielder performing really well. Along the way, we took 4 wickets, which reduced Bedfont’s score to 220 runs. It was now our time to bat. We finished on 224 runs meaning we won our first game by only 4 runs.
In our second game, we played Strand on the Green. We won the toss again, and again we let Strand bat first. Strand got off to a very strong start, hitting a lot of 4’s and 6’s in their first 2 overs. The amazing thing is, we didn’t let that affect us as after the first 2 overs, we completely stopped their run scoring, with some really impressive fielding and accurate bowling. The star of the show was our 6th bowler, who picked up an amazing 2 wickets in his over. We picked up 4 very important wickets which gave us a very good chance of winning. We reduced Strand to again, 220 runs. This time, we got off to a really strong start, hitting 4 6’s in our first 2 overs. In the end, we finished on 248 runs, meaning we won the game by 28 runs.
In our third game, we played Belmont. We lost the toss and Belmont chose to bowl first. Our batters smashing boundaries. It was a master class on how to bat, with our batters not losing a wicket for the second game in a row and finishing on 283 runs, which was a competition high. We bowled well again, with a few fielding mistakes this time. But Belmont would only finish on 230 runs, meaning we won by 53 runs.
In our fourth game, we played St Michael and St Martins. We lost the toss and they decided to bowl. Our opener smashed five 6’s of the opening 2 overs. Which put us in a very dominant position. For our first 7 overs, the only runs we scored were 6’s. St Michael and St Martins didn’t make it easy, bowling very well and accurately. Again, we didn’t lose a wicket and we posted a score of 265 runs. We kept the bowling clean and tidy and the boys gave everything to stop them scoring runs. A special mention to one of our fielders, who took one of the best catches I’ve ever seen. The batter hit a pull shot very hard, going straight for a 6, but our fielder moved over and took an incredible two-handed catch just below his chest. We took a solid 3 wickets, with them only finishing on 210 runs, meaning only allowed them 10 runs and won the game by 55 runs.
In our final group game, we played Edward Pauling. They won the toss and chose to field meaning we were batting first. We picked up runs and we finished on 240 runs. This left us with a tough fielding and bowling job on a smaller pitch. Edward Pauling finished on 227 runs, meaning we won by 13 runs.
At the end of the group, we finished 1st place and made the semi-finals, with the only team to win 5 out of 5 games. We also finished on the most runs with 1260 scored and took the 3rd most wickets, with 13. Heston finished in 2nd, Cranford 3rd and Hounslow Town 4th. We should have played Hounslow Town, but we ended up playing Cranford in the semi-final.
The toss for the semi-final went to us and we chose to bowl first. We started off in a positive way, hitting a few boundaries and running between the wickets well. We were in control and in the lead, but in our final 3 overs, we lost 2 wickets due to being run out, which would cost us dearly. We finished on 232 runs, meaning we lost our semi-final by only 3 runs. However the children had played fantastically.
Overall, everyone was so proud of the team who took part. The skills on display were out of this world. They gave everything and can hold their heads high with pride.
The children did the school proud with their performance.
June 2022
Alexandra took part in this year’s Year 5/6 Kwik Cricket Competition at Springwell school. 10 boys from year 4, 5 and 6 represented the school. The schools were put into 3 groups of 3, with each school playing each other once. You received 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a win. The top team from each group and the best second place team would make it through to the borough finals. Each team would only be allowed to play 8 players. Each team would start on 200 runs with the normal ways of scoring runs in use. Every run scored would be added onto the 200 runs. Each team would face 8 overs, with the batting team putting their players into pairs. Each pair would face 2 overs.
All 8 players on the fielding team would have to bowl 1 over each. Every wicket the fielding team got, would result in the batting team getting minus 5 runs. After the fielding team bowled all 8 of their overs, the teams would swap over.
Our first game was against Cranford A. Our captain won the toss and chose to field first. We got off to a tricky start, giving away runs due to wides and fielding mistakes. Our middle bowlers picked up the level, getting 4 wickets and reducing Cranford’s run rate. But, after a couple of big overs, Cranford finished on an impressive, 276 runs. Meaning, we needed 277 runs to win. We got off to the best possible start, smashing 50 runs off our first 4 overs. But, unfortunately in our next 4 overs, we lost 6 wickets and our runs dried up. Which resulted in us finishing on 252 runs, losing the game by 24 runs which everyone felt really disappointed by.
In our second and final game, we played Springwell B. We all knew we had to score a lot of runs in order to get through as Cranford A beat Springwell B in the pervious game. Our captain again won the toss and chose to bat this time. Again, we got off to an amazing start smashing 4’s and 6’s all over the place. But this time, we didn’t have a collapse and kept picking up runs all over the place. We finished our innings on 290 runs, which was a tremendous effort. When Springwell B stepped up to bat, they were blown away by the skill on display by our bowlers and fielders. We took 6 wickets and reduced Springwell to only 216 runs which meant we won by a massive total of 74 runs.
The huge score in our second match meant that we qualified for the borough finals as the best second place team. We finished with the 3rd highest runs scored out of all 9 teams. It was an amazing effort from everyone and the boys were over the moon with getting through. Our captain led by example, scoring loads of runs and bowling two exceptional overs. We look forward to competing in the borough finals.
May 2022
Alexandra took part in this year’s Year 3/4 Tennis Festival at Dukes Meadows Tennis Centre. We were 1 of 46 schools who entered this year’s Tennis Festival. We had 5 girls and 5 boys from year 3 and 4 take part. The children were put into pairs, one boy with one girl and were given a number between 1 and 5. The schools were split up into groups of 6. Each pair played all the pairs with the same number as them. So, pair number 1 from Alexandra would have to play all the other number 1’s from the 5 other schools in our group. We played half our games on the hard court and the other half on the clay court. We played 25 games overall. 12 on the hard court and 13 on the clay court. The games were 8 minutes long and were scored. A point would be awarded if the other pair hit the ball off the court, if they let the ball double bounce on their side or hit the net and the ball bounced back on their side. The winning team was the team with the most points at the end of the game.
We started on the hard court and got off to good start, winning 7 of our 12 opening games. The children performed really well, showing some amazing forehand and backhand shots. Pair 1 stood out in the opening games, winning all 3 of their games. The children did struggle with how high the ball bounced on the hard court. We then moved onto the clay court for our second half of games. The children performed even better than they did on the hard court, winning 9 of their 13 games. The children much preferred playing on the clay court as they found it easier to move and the ball didn’t bounce as high. Again, the children showed tremendous skill and battled extremely hard.
Overall, we won 16 of our 25 games, which was a fantastic effort all round. Pair 1 won 4 of their 5 games which was the standout showing. Pair’s 2, 3, 4 and 5 all won 3 of their 5 games. Which meant every pair won the majority of their games, which again, is amazing. One of the highlights of the day, was pair 2 who won their fourth game 18-1. That was our biggest win by a mile. The children performed exceptionally well and were very proud of their efforts.
May 2022
Alexandra took part in this years Year 1and2 Quadkids competition in May 2022. 13 teams entered the competition from Hounslow. 5 girls and 4 boys from year 1and 2 represented the school in this competition. The competition was made up of 4 events. A 50-Meter sprint, a 300-Meter run, a Standing Long Jump and a Vortex Howler Throw. Each child would have one attempt at the 300-Meter run and 50-Meter Sprint and 3 at the Standing Long Jump and the Vortex Howler Throw.
Our first event was the Standing Long Jump. The children had to stand behind a line on two feet. They went one at a time. When the leader said go, the child would jump as far as they could from a standing start. When they landed, they would be measured from the furthest point back (their heels if they landed on their feet). There were some amazing jumps. With everyone jumping over 1.08 meters. One of the girls in Year 2 jumped 1.80 meters. Which was an amazing effort.
Our second event was the 300-Meters run. The children had to run about around a real athletics track. The children were put into pairs, and ran in the same race against 2 other schools with their times being recorded down. The children did unbelievably well, winning 3 of the 5 races we took part in. In the other 2 races, we finished 2nd. It was an amazing effort from the children as it was a very hard event. The year 1’s stole the show, with one of the girls running the race in 1.17 (M:SS) and one of the boys running the race in 1:16 (M:SS).
Our third event we took part in was the Vortex Howler throw. It was a difficult one for the children, as most of them have never thrown a Vortex Howler before. The children tried their hardest and got better as they went on. The children threw some respectable scores, with the furthest being 15.00 meters from a boy in year 1.
Our final event was the 50-Meter sprint. The children ran one at a time against two other children from two different schools. Our children absolutely smashed it, winning 7 of our 9 races. With the other two finishing 2nd and 3rd respectably. It was an amazing showing from the children. Our quickest run was from a child in year 2, who ran their 50-Meter sprint in 8.80 seconds. Which is an amazing time.
Overall, we finished in 3rd place. Which was a terrific effort from the children who took part. We were closer to 1st place than we were 4th place in terms of points. The children had great fun and made everyone at Alexandra proud. The children were delighted to of finished in 3rd place out of 13 schools.
March 2022
Alexandra took part in this year’s Year 3/4 Best Football Competition in March 2022. A mixture of 9 boys and girls from year 3 and 4 represented the school. All the schools entering were split into groups of 6 or 7. The children showed amazing attitude, courage and skill throughout the competition. As a result, we won 4 of our 6 group games. The willingness to never give up was definitely on show, as we won two games from 1-0 down scoring with almost the last kick in both games. We finished 3rd out of 7 teams in our group. We missed out on the finals by 3 points.
We finished off the competition by playing another school who also finished 3rd in their group. Who we also beat 1-0. So overall, we won 5 out of our 7 games. Which is an amazing effort from everyone involved.
March 2022
Alexandra took part in this year’s year 5/6 3v3 basketball competition in March 2022. We were put into a group with 4 other schools. We got off to the best possible start, winning out first game 6-0. With some lovely early baskets. Unfortunately, we lost our second game 4-0 as we just couldn’t seem to score.
In our third game, we narrowly won 4-0 after some great defence from the team. We needed to win our last group game to get through to the Semi-finals. We were winning 6-3 with 1 minute to go. But unfortunately, the other team scored two baskets in the final minute including a basket in the last 10 seconds to narrowly knock us out of the competition.
So overall, we won 2 out of or 4 group games, missing out on the semi-finals just. The team played some incredible basketball. Some amazing passing and scoring on the attacking side. But, I think the most impressive part was our defensive skills and how well they all worked together.
Thursday 24th March 2022
Alexandra played a friendly Kwik Cricket match against Wellington Primary School in March 2022. This was a warm up game for the Kwik Cricket competition in June. Wellington won the coin toss and chose to bat first.
After some great bowling and fielding from Alexandra, Wellington finished with a score of 145 runs. The teams swapped over and it was our turn to bat. We started off very strong scoring a lot of runs at the start of our innings. Even hitting 30 runs off of one over. But unfortunately, we ended out batting innings with 141 runs, losing by just 4 runs.
Overall, considering the team only had 2 training sessions, the team performed extremely well, Especially with the bat.
November 2021
Alexandra took part in this year’s Year 5/6 Girls Football competiton in November 2021. 9 girls from year 5 and 6 were selected to represent the school. All the schools taking part were put into multiple groups consisting of 5 teams.
The girls showed amazing structure as a team not conceding a single goal the whole competition. With some amazing goal saving challenges and cracking saves from our goalkeeper. Despite finishing joint third in our group, we missed out on the knockout stage via goals scored. Overall, the team played some amazing football and showed a great desire not to lose.
November 2021
Alexandra took part in this year’s Primary Boccia Ball competition in November 2021. We decided to enter an A, B and C team. Each team consisted of 4 children. One child from each year group. There were some very tense moments and a great amount of skill shown from the children. All the schools were put into two groups. After all their efforts, unfortunately we finished 6th in group 1 and 5th and 6th in group 2. Overall, the children had great fun and learnt some new skills along the way.
November 2021
Alexandra took part in this year’s Primary Cross Country in November 2021. We entered 2 children from each year group, which consisted of a mixture of 8 boys and girls. The children in year 3 and 4 ran 1km (1000m) and the children in year 5 and 6 ran 1 mile (1600m). They all tried their hardest from start to finish.
The highlight was, one of our year 6 children finished 5th out of around 100 participants. Overall, the children ran their hearts out gave everything with some very impressive finishing positions.
Wednesday 22nd January 2020
This year, Alexandra took two teams consisting of 6 players each to the Football Borough Festival held at the Gunnersbury Park Sports Hub. The competition was huge and a total of 33 teams entered across the Borough. We knew we had to be confident and at our very best to be in a chance of qualifying.
As both teams were split into different groups, Mr Hollins and Miss Smith, our coaches of our football team, took a team each, Mr Hollins (Alexandra A ) and Miss Smith (Alexandra B) and headed off to their designated pitches to start their tournament. Both teams played the 3-1-1 formation for our 6 a-side matches and worked tirelessly throughout.
The first matches for both teams were tough with Alexandra A battling out in a goal-less draw against Hounslow Heath, whilst Alexandra B taking a heavy loss against Springwell. After this, both teams took it up a gear and played with more confidence with Alexandra A hammering Springwell 3-0 with Herdi, Octavian and David scoring some fantastic goals. Alexandra B in turn put in a lot of effort to gain a good result against Smallberry.
On to the next two matches and Alexandra B were up against Marlborough in another tricky match. Despite some near chances and some good skills, they couldn’t come up with the win which resulted in a 1-0 loss. However in their final match, Alexandra B finally got the win that they deserved and came back from being 1-0 down, to winning 2-1 in an impressive turnaround which they can be proud about.
The final two group games for Alexandra A continued to be tricky. Their next game was against Southville, who would eventually win the group and were very strong and organised. Despite some great attacking from Alexandra, we ended up being caught on the break and let in a goal. After working really hard to try and get back into the match, we ended up suffering our first defeat for Alexandra A. Our last match in the group was against Isleworth Town which was a very frustrating game. Alexandra A quickly scored with powerful hit shot by Octavian and seemed to be coasting the game. However, right at the death, a lapse of concentration and Alexandra A let them in on goal and they scored an undeserved equaliser to draw the game 1-1.
Anxiously waiting for the results, we found out Alexandra A had been given a place in quarter finals which all the children were thrilled about and let out a big cheer. Our quarter final match was to be played against Fairholme.
The quarter final was a very tense but exciting match to watch. Both teams were constantly pressing high up the pitch and working extremely hard to win the ball. There were few chances for both teams, the best falling to Octavian whose shot looked destined to hit the back of the net, only for their goalkeeper to produce a fantastic save to push it aside for a corner. After 6 minutes, neither team could score so it went to sudden death….the dreaded penalty shootout!
Our first penalty was an absolute pile driver and was hit hard and low down the middle. Unfortunately for us, their goalkeeper stayed in his position and somehow managed to save it. Up stepped Fairholme and they scored with a well-placed penalty in the bottom corner to send Fairholme through to the semi-finals.
Both teams did Alexandra proud and worked endlessly together throughout the tournament. More importantly, everyone had fun and it was a great experience for all of them. Hopefully we will see some of them playing in the Premier League in the near future!
Tuesday 21st January 2020
10 children from Year Two were selected to represent APS at the Year 2 Sports’ Day. We travelled by coach to Cranford College to compete against other Hounslow schools, in a variety of relay races. We started our day on Carousel 1, competing in activities such as the football shootout and rugby pass. We encouraged the APS team by cheering and clapping. Moving onto Carousel 2, we took part in beanbag target throwing and a ball rolling relay. After Carousel 2 we had a much needed rest break, munching into our yummy pack lunches. Onto the last Carousel we had fun running in sprints, over hurdles and even weaving through cones. The Year 2 children represented APS well, demonstrating our school values with all teachers, peers and other members attending the sports day! Overall, we had a fantastic day and had so much fun taking part in all the relay races. Well done, Year two!
Friday 17th January 2020
On a cold but sunny Friday afternoon, Mr Hollins and Miss Smith took a team, that was made up of year 5 and year 6 children, to compete in a Tag Rugby Tournament at Heston School. The tournament was made up of 4 groups with 4 teams (schools) each. Alexandra was drawn in group A against Beavers, Berkeley and Cranford.
Our first match was against a very strong Beavers team that eventually went on to win the group. After a shaky start, you could tell there was a bit of nerves in some of the players of our team, which quickly led to Beavers taking advantage and scoring two quick tries. Our team settled soon after and was able to pull back 1 try through a great solo run from Herdi. After giving it a real go in the final few minutes, we eventually ran out of time to even the tie.
On to the second match and we were up against Cranford. Our team was much more confident and played brilliantly. We were quickly able to turn over their attack from the kick off with some brilliant defensive play, particularly from our girls Mahi, Yashita and Yasmin. Straight from attack, were able to get the ball up into their territory and scored 2 tries through David and Herdi. Cranford did pull a try back but our defence remained solid and we won the game 2-1.
Our last game of the group was against a very tricky Berkeley team. Both teams defences were on fine form as neither team could break down each-others defence. Alexandra came the closest to scoring a try, but it was deemed however that our player had his feet off the pitch when placing the ball down. It ended 0-0 in a really tight and tough game.
After completing our group games, we found out that we were now runners up in our group. Alexandra had landed a place in the semi-finals and were up against the team that had won Group B.
This was a very exciting match that had to go into overtime. After another piece of excellent defending straight from the start and turning the ball over, we were on the attack again but struggled to get through a well organised defence. When we did get through, after a some neat play and brilliant run from Said, he ended being caught out by a last ditch tackle which resulted in the ball being turned over. The opposition were on the attack again and they finally did manage to break down our defence this time and scored a good try. This only seemed to spur Alexandra on and straight after the restart, David went on a magical run and equalised bringing the scores level at 1-1. After many attempts from each team to score that winning try, the game went into overtime and unfortunately for us, the opposition managed to score that winning try to win 2-1.
Overall, our team were amazing. Their effort, communication and teamwork were brilliant and they were all leaders on and off the pitch. This was even recognised by other school leaders who praised Alexandra for their performances. This gives us great confidence for next year’s tournament where hopefully we will be winners!
Wednesday 20th November 2019
Alexandra took part in this year’s Boccia tournament on Wednesday 20th November. This cluster tournament was introduced to primary schools to encourage and involve children with special educational needs.
We decided to enter both an A and B team, which consisted of a mixture of 6 boys and girls across the years 3, 5 and 6. Both teams performed extremely well, with our A team reaching through to the semi-finals against Springwell Primary. It was an exciting semi-final, with both schools battling for that final position. Although, at the last stage, it looked like our opponents were going to beat us, Alexandra, with their last ball, was able to succeed and get us through to the finals.
During the final game, it was a very tense but an enjoyable game to watch with Alexandra and Reach academy playing a thrilling first round. However, Reach Academy won that round by 1 point.
Into the second round, Alexandra was in the lead and it looked like it was going to have to go to a deciding round. Unfortunately, Reach Academy, with their last ball, managed to make a superb throw which won them the game and the trophy.
It was an amazing event and well done to all the children that took part and made all at Alexandra extremely proud.
Thursday 17th October 2019
This cluster tournament took place on Thursday 17th October 2019 and was held at Cranford Community School and included 10 Hounslow Primary Schools, in and around our cluster. This year we took along two teams of 7 girls per side. Our girls were ably coached by Mr Hollins who holds a football and referee qualification. Both teams played exceptionally well and were able to win a few of their matches. The matches they lost, the girls were able to hold off the opposing teams so that the scores were only a few goals between them. Our girl’s football team will continue to practise throughout the rest of the academic year with Mr Hollins and Miss Smith running the girls football club before school every Monday morning. This year, we are extremely pleased at the girl’s dedication and because of this; more girls throughout the school have started to take an interest in the sport.
